Comic Sans
Helvetica got its due, now it’s time for Comic Sans: the Documentary.
Is Comic Sans misunderstood? Unjustly maligned? You be the judge…

I have to try a princess cake! Maybe next time I go out to Seattle, I’ll make my brother take me to Ballard to hunt one down! Also, Cake Spy (going into my feed reader immediately) has an interesting article about why the princess cake is a delicate shade of green. (via a really great post over at not martha)
Cake Spy also has a guest post over at Cupcakes Take the Cake about the best places in Seattle to get cupcakes. I had some really wonderful ones at All City Coffee. (As a matter of fact, I ate a cupcake for breakfast every day I was there!)
The Brown Butter Shorties at Smitten Kitchen made my mouth water. I think I have all the ingredients in the house too…
Also, Theresa Honeywell’s motorcycle cozy caught my eye. I’m so far behind on my holiday knitting, I don’t know when I’ll catch up, but my next project is going to be a knitted steering wheel cover! (via Jezebel)
And if you’re looking for wonder xmas gifts, Design Sponge is the place to start. Today Grace posted a roundup of fantastic gifts for under $25 as well as a link to lovely (and inexpensive) Julia Rothman prints.
The Rx gave me an early birthday present last night! It is a vintage Eames LCM and it is absolutely perfect. He bought it at Atomic on Park Street, which is the best place to go in Madison for vintage (and new) mid-century modern furniture. He also bought some very cool xmas ornaments, which I will get pictures of tomorrow!
I just posted a collection of web design links over at my other blog-head on over and check it out!
Artist Carl Warner creates dreamy landscapes out of food. Visit the Telegraph to see more. (via Arts & Letters Daily)

When I first saw these images, I had a flashback to sitting in Professor Gail Geiger’s Italian Renaissance class and seeing this strange painting by Giuseppe Arcimboldo

And of course, Warner owes a lot to Dutch and British landscape painting.

In addition to the font I posted about a few days ago, the Dutch government has also commissioned a commemorative 5 euro coin. Not only is this coin beautiful, but the design was very well thought out. You can read about the fascinating process of designing the coin in a post written by the winner, Stani. (via i love typography)

The Dutch government commissioned an official font and logo via a design competition. You can see the winning entry by Peter Verheul over at designworkplan. I wonder if, now that we have a design savvy President we can expect to see something similar within the mish-mash of US Government websites and publications?

Head on over to my web design blog to check out a post with a link to Obama dingbats as well as info about his website and logo design!
