Not one, but two links to zombie related posts! Here is a version of Jane Austen’s P&P reimagined for the zombie era, and here is a link to a hacked road sign that warns “Zombies Ahead”.

At The Happiness Project, which I’ve been hooked on lately, Gretchen Rubin posts about how habits help to maintain happiness. Her advice is something that I’ve found true, but difficult to implement!

Visualizing the growth of Target. Lots of cool stuff on this site!

Car Bomb Cupcakes at Smitten Kitchen. If Katie doesn’t make these for Sunday, I will make them for my crafty party next week!

An interview with one of my favorite type designers, Mark Simonson at MyFonts. I love all of his typefaces, but Goldenbook has to be my favorite!

A tribute to John Updike by John Irving on Slate.

A list of hot green careers at Fast Company. Unfortunately Web Designer is not one of them. Maybe I’ll have to put my web skillz to work creating something good for the environment. Food for thought.

In other green news, Whole Foods will now take your #5 plastics for recycling. (Thanks Erin!) Another alternative is to donate them to art organizations like Monroe Street Fine Art Center. MSFAC is always looking for yogurt containers, egg cartons, etc. The kids use them for art projects.

How to save the bees at the NYT’s Wild Side blog. This blog is definitely worth putting in your feed. It is almost always fascinating.

Does this article mean that we all have rhythm? Because I beg to disagree. (This means you Rx!)

And if you are looking for something to do this weekend in Madison, check out the Roller Derby, which is always a good show!

Animals Are People Too

Filed under: Uncategorized — kindra @ 10:08 am

As some of you may know, one of my New Year’s resolutions was to lead a more animal-friendly lifestyle. My husband and I have been eating less meat, and we are eliminating all cosmetics and cleaning supplies that have been tested on animals.

We have also been buying our milk from Sassy Cow Creamery, a local dairy farm which includes a cow of the month trading card on each gallon. Not only is this idea cute, but according to this article about calling cows by name, it may also be profitable! (thanks Tony)

The flip side of being trying to lead an animal-compassionate lifestyle, is that PETA is the major clearing house for information about companies that test on animals. Although I admire their dedication, their crazy antics turn off a lot of people, and their self-righteousness leads them to disregard other important social justice issues like sexism and hunger. Katy over at Jezebel has an excellent analysis of PETA’s recent Super Bowl commercial debacle. I recommend you check it out.

On a less serious note, when you google the phrase “animals are people too, the video below (from neatorama) shows up as one of the first hits. It features a wide variety of animals getting completely wasted. Enjoy!
